When it comes to passwords, most of us go for something short, simple, and memorable. However, those descriptions for choosing a password put you at risk for being hacked. Follow these password management tips in order to keep yourself safe while using the internet.
- Don’t use the same password for multiple accounts and platforms. Choose a unique password instead — especially for websites with and services that will store sensitive data (i.e. banking website).
- Try to have 8 to 10 characters in your password including letters, numbers, and special characters when allowed.
- Refrain from using relatively easy to find information in your passwords such as your kid’s names or your birthday.
- Try out a password management service such as OnePassword or LastPass to store and generate unique passwords for your accounts. Password management services make it easier to keep up with secure passwords.
